Recently, the World Health Organization has declared India as the country with the largest number of Diabetic individuals in the World.In the next fifteen years India is expected to lead the World in the number of cardiovascular deaths as well.
There is bound to be increasing demand for the services of medical professionals well trained in the prevention and management of diabetes and its complications. Unfortunately, the present day undergraduate medical curriculum does not give adequate stress on diabetes. Hence a well structured diabetes course is the need of the hour.
Advacanced Certificate Course in Diabetology (in association with RSSDI) conducted at Arthur Asirvatham Hospital affiliated to The Tamil Nadu DR. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, is designed such that, the trained Diabetologist will be well-equipped to prevent the onset of disease in a given population by creating awareness through continuous medical education, to increase the life span of Diabetic subjects by offering proper treatment methodologies and regular checkups and to reduce the incidence of complications.

1. The Course :
Under Semester pattern the Centre offers two year full time FELLOWSHIP IN DIABETOLOGY.
2. ELIGIBILITY
A pass in MBBS degree (obtained from any recognized University in India). Two years clinical experience may be preferred.

4. SELECTION :
An expert committee constituted by the institution will assess the aptitude and knowledge of the candidates.
Committee’s decision will be based on the performance of the candidates in the personal interview along with other credentials.
The committee’s decision on selection of candidates will be final. Any canvassing in this regard will be treated as a disqualification.
Selected candidates will be individually notified. Candidate who fails to appear on the prescribed date for interview will not
be considered for selection.
5. COURSE DURATION :
Duration of the course will be for Two years comprising four semesters of six months duration
each (Full time Non residential).
6. COURSE FEE :
One time course fee of Rs.50,000/- (Rupees Fifty Thousand only) is payable at the time of admission by Demand
Draft (cheque for local payment) drawn in favour “ARTHUR ASIRVATHAM HOSPITAL” payable at Madurai. Course fee
includes Admission fee, Tuition fee, Examination fees, and other administration expenses. The course fee paid
by the candidate following selection and admission is not refundable on any account, even in the event of
discontinuation from the course at any part.After selection, the candidate shall have to execute a contract with
the institution, committing not to discontinue, at any point of time of the course due to any reason.If any of the
conditions mentioned in the contract is breached, the executor of the contract shall compensate the Institution
by repaying the money drawn as stipend.
7. STIPEND:
Selected candidates will be paid a monthly stipend for the entire period of course duration.
Stipend for 1st Year – 10,000/-Per month, Stipend for 2nd Year – 15,000/ per Month.
RULES & REGULATIONS
- At the time of admission the candidate should deposit all the Original certificates with the institution, which will be returned only after completion of the course
- An Agreement / contract will have to be signed by the selected candidates with Arthur Asirvatham Hospital for Fellowship training in Diabetology. During the 24 months course period, the candidate will be called “Fellowship Trainee.
- The ‘Fellowship Trainee’ will be assessed at the end of each Semester and will be allowed to continue the training, only if the trainee’s progress is found to be satisfactory. At the end of the first two years of the course, candidate will have to take up a written, oral and clinical examinations. Certified by the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R.Medical University
- Unauthorized or unintimated leave will call for disciplinary action.
- Long absence or leave taken beyond the stipulated days will be refered to the Dr. MGR Medical University for final decision.
- Smoking inside the premises is strictly prohibited.
- Dress code as per Uniform Rules of the Institution must be adhered to strictly. Male Doctors should wear full arm white over coat during duty hours. Lady Doctors should wear saree / Chudidhars and full arm white over coat.
- A library caution deposit of Rs.2000/- (REFUNDABLE) is to be paid at the time of admission by Demand Draft drawn in favour of “ Arthur Asirvatham Hospital” Payable at Madurai, which shall be refunded at the time of leaving the Institution.
- Library books must be maintained in good condition, if not, due fine will be charged in proportion to the damage.
- The Management reserves the right to change the terms and conditions for admission, course content, fee charged, other regulations etc. during the duration of the course and also to post the Fellows to any of its branches during the course.
